Top 5 Best Health Tips for Kids

Good nutrition is one of the key elements to a healthy and happy life. Parents, therefore, need to make their child’s health and nutrition a top priority. Children need proper nutrients to grow strong and stay healthy, both physically and mentally. As a parent, you play an important role in making sure your little one learns and maintains good health habits they can carry with them as they get older. Many of us struggle with getting our kids to eat healthy, which can feel like an uphill battle. Fortunately for you, we have come up with some helpful tips that parents like you might find useful. Here are the top health tips to consider so you can ensure your child leads a healthy life!

Make eating a balanced diet a priority

A balanced diet is one of the most important aspects to maintaining a healthy body. Be sure to incorporate foods into your family’s diet that are rich in vitamins and minerals. This is important when it comes to strengthening immunity and our body’s defense against sickness and diseases.

We understand that it isn’t always easy to introduce healthy food items to young kids, especially when you have a picky eater. The key is offering them a wide variety of healthy food options so they can decide which ones they like to eat. For instance, you can have kids choose between eating an apple or an orange, or between carrots or broccoli. Doing this will make them feel that they are given choices instead of being forced.

This doesn’t mean they can’t indulge in some of their favorite less healthy food options from time to time, like fried chicken or meat. They need protein for their brain and muscle development, which they can get from meat, fish and nuts. As long as their meals are balanced and complete with important nutrients, they’re on the right track.

Cut down on sugar intake

If there’s one thing a lot of kids love, it’s sweets! Many kids love candy, chocolate, and other sweet treats. There’s no doubt about it. While that’s normal for many children, we know that too much sugar intake can be detrimental not only to their teeth but their health as a whole.

Eating sweets too frequently can cause cavities, tooth decay, and even obesity and other ailments such as diabetes. It can also make them instantly full which may interfere with their appetite and leave less room for healthy foods.

Prioritize sleep

Do you remember how it felt the last time you didn’t get enough sleep? You probably felt tired, lacked energy, and were grumpy. The same thing goes for kids. Children spend a whole day at school, running around with friends, learning new lessons, engaging in different activities. This is why adequate sleep is important.

Quality sleep plays an important role in a child’s growth and development. Therefore, parents need to ensure that their kids get at least ten hours of sleep every night. Establish a consistent bedtime routine for your little one. Take away electronic devices at least an hour before bedtime. Also, try to follow a morning routine, and schedule young children’s naps strategically so they don’t interrupt their sleep at night.

Drink plenty of water

The importance of drinking enough water cannot be overstated. Sure, juices and soda may be tastier. But they’re also very rich in sugar. Water, on the other hand, plays an important role in digestion and proper blood circulation. Therefore, encourage your child to drink plenty of water every day and minimize the intake of sugary drinks.

Stay active

Today’s kids have been born into a world of modern technology. Almost every child is now well-versed when it comes to using the internet, gadgets and electronic devices.  It’s no wonder  some kids tend to spend more time indoors than running around and playing outside.

While technology has made our lives easy and convenient in countless ways, parents need to remember that too much screen time can be detrimental to your child’s development. Instead of letting your child stay glued to the TV screen and other electronic devices, provide kids with more opportunities to stay physically active. Encourage family exercise or other fun activities that require physical movement. Go to the beach, go for a hike, or take them to the park. Make staying active a priority in your family.
